Installing/Origin Problem :( :(
I have no idea what to do, who else to turn to or what the hell went wrong but Sims 3 just wont install. EA are rubbish and have not helped me at all! they've in fact closed the chat once or twice just because they give up. I don't really want to download it again either (illegally or not) just because... well. internet issues at the moment.

my problem is that The Sims 3 just will not install. I downloaded it via Origin (which I deeply regret! only if I knew of Steam to begin with ;__;) and then I click "Ready To Install" so start it all then I select my country (U.K.) and then tick the next little box about anonymous game play collecting thing and then click next again and then NOTHING happens. I look in my Task Manager and I see "Sims3Setup" hovering around doing something (using memory of around 14 - 15k) and then it just disappears! and then on Origin the "Ready To Install" bar, which went to "Installing / / /" after I clicked it, has reverted back to it's "Ready To Install" button. and when I go to install it via "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 3" it does just the same only I go through a slightly different installation bit where I accept the T&C and see the pixelated classic Sims 3 picture.

this really is SO annoying. I noticed that in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 3\Game\Bin" folder there was TS3.ex_ and Sims3Launcher.ex_ so I changed the file name to .exe and then they showed the appropriate icons. I then double clicked the TS3.exe one and it seemed to load fine until it got to the main home page and it then said that it hadn't been installed, which is true because there was no "Electronic Arts" folder in the Documents folder. I've Googled around and I've read here, here and here and unfortunately none of these have helped :(.

so basically I'm now stuck. I hope someone can help me ;{

Oh wow, that's terrible :/ I'm sorry I can't help you, since I didn't get it from Origin and nothing happened to me when I installed mine. But if everything else fails, I would suggest you try sending an ask with your problem to simsfaq @ Tumblr, if you have an account or anonymously (remember to check back to see if they have answered your question though!).

Good luck!

annoying thing is that I had the physical copies but I sold it because I needed the money D; I only bought it online after because my laptop doesn't have a disc drive. but now I'm on my PC so I'm kinda wanting those discs again. I just don't have the money to waste the downloaded version and buy a new disc. and the thing that is most odd is that the Origin download used to work perfectly fine. :{. and the other expansions work fine (WA and Ambitions) so I just... do not know :|

did you make sure that you completely uninstall and move all files for Sims 3 before you reinstalled it? I used to have the same problem with my sims 2

yep, I was in regedit getting rid of everything under the the search of "The Sims 3" as well as deleting the folders in My Documents and my C: Drive

I still haven't gotten it fixed. how far have you gotten with it all? I ended up having to torrent it - I've bought two copies before (online and real copy) so I don't see why I can't. if they won't let me download it I'll find an alternative!

Origin is BAD
I bought my expansion pack, installed Origin to install the game and then ta-da, all the issues started with my computer, which was cleaned and updated just a week ago!
First the expansion pack downloaded but didn't instal giving me errors.
Then it uninstalled my original game, which was bought on a CD and played right before purchasing an expansion pack. (so it WAS working properly, i checked!)
Then I restarted my computer to see if things would be fixed...Nope, it gave me errors on the windows start up. Scary black screen, you know, right?
Then i ran my system clean, and guess what, I have a WHOLE bunch of issues with Trojans, spyware, corrupted files, anything you can name and everything in EA/Sims folders!!!!!
Contacted Origen, they said "turn off your Antivirus and try again", yeah right!

I'm pissed! They didn't refund me saying that the transaction doesn't show in their system yet, since I paid last night. But seriously, now I'm wondering how many issues with my computer I will have because of their stupid Origin installer!

Buy CDs! Don't make the same mistakes.

Fixed the problem!
I had this same problem when I bought the digital copy from origin. I have been trying to fix it all day. Finally, I took all of my files in the "Electronic Arts" folder, and moved them to a totally different folder. Then, I went back to my Program Files, and ran the Setup manually (without Origin). It worked fine!

I think I've found soultion
I've had similar problems with sims re-installation for my daughter.
Finally I have deinstalled sims and origin, deleted all folders of sims, origin and ea (watch carefully to not delete folders associated to another games installed on your pc).
I've cleared lefts with ccleaner as mentioned above, opened regedit and cleared all strings and settlements in system registry connected to sims and origin.

Finally, after reboot, i've installed origin.

Now - if you forget to uncheck "start origin with system startup" close origin- close origin, chceck in in task manager, applications & processes if are closed - otherwise close them.
Go to start menu - find origin in apps - right click - Run as Administrator.
Download through origin TS3 - then after downloading installation begin smoothly and you can enjoy sims.

I suppose, that issue is caused by ea guys, who forgot to add script to confirm system administrator authorization during installation process- so that's why "normally" installation is incomplete.

I hope, above description will help to sims fans.
